I sat as still as possible while a hummingbird floated in the air almost close enough to touch. We both all of the sudden seemed to notice the others presence. We look at each other for a moment before he returns to the flower at hand elegantly eating its nectar. The sound of its wings so close it's almost electrifying, the deep intense hum so beautiful in the late afternoon silence. A time when most birds are resting to stay out of the heat.
As I watch him move from one flower to the next his almost emerald green body glistens and shines like the sea basking in the sun. Then he's off leaving me only able to sit and wait until the next time he will come around. While browsing though some local Minnesota blogs today I came across one talking about staying true to our Scandinavian roots and a NY Times article that noticed!
I am mostly Swedish with a hint of Irish and grew up with lutefisk and lefse on the table at Christmas. Swedish pancakes topped with lingonberries is still my favorite breakfast. And I love to fika! (to take a coffee break with something sweet). Here is the NY Times article that you should definitely check out. Especially if you like food even half as much as I do: nytimes.com/2012/08/01/dining/twin-cities-embrace-their-nordic-food-heritage The blog I discovered the link on is: http://www.secretsofthecity.com/ And the restaurant making the splash: The Bachelor Farmer Enjoy the read! I'm going to fika right now thought I'd love to be going to The Bachelor Farmer for a delicious meal! x |
