This morning was my morning to sleep in but my dog had other plans for me. So while lying on the couch unable to get back to sleep I decided to watch the VP debate since I missed it the other night.
After watching about 2/3 of it I was thinking it was a pretty good debate. They each have their opinions and thats fine. Everyone is entitled to their own views, thoughts, and opinions. But then we got to the abortion and women's rights section and with a single sentence I felt betrayed and outraged by a congressman from a state that I grew up in and love. I knew his view on this before watching but when I heard him talking it got my fire going. Ryan put his foot in his mouth when he said "I respect people who don't agree with me on this, but the policy of a Romney administration will be to oppose abortion with the exceptions for rape, incest, and life of the mother." Right there in one sentence Ryan, you are telling me you respect me and my opinion and then telling me you don't actually care and that you will make that decision for me! Unbelievable! Let's be clear here. I am not for abortion. I don't think anyone is. However just like Ryan said each war will bring different circumstances and deciding how to move forward depends on what these circumstances are, so do peoples lives. You can not say that just because it wasn't rape that that woman should be having a baby. It's important that people are being responsible and understanding the possible outcome of sex however every situation needs to be handled in it's own way. This is a decision that should only be made by a woman and her doctor. We don't want to end up with higher rates of teen and unwanted pregnancy because women don't have choices. Ryan, are you going to financially support these families? Are you going to force the dad's to stick around? I don't want to return to the days before abortion was legal in the first place. Women turning to back alley abortions and the death rate rising again due to this. Abortion MortalityThe number of deaths from abortion has declined dramatically since Roe v. Wade.Source: The Alan Guttmacher Institute, Trends in Abortion in the United States, 1973-2000, January 2003. Planned Parenthood accepts government funding for what they do however NONE of that money is used for abortions. We don't need a Nation where our rights are being stripped from us, where we have a growing number of unwanted children and families that can't afford to take care of their children. It disturbing to me that a few men who I've never met want to make these choices for me. American friends, I ask of you to please go out this November and exercise your RIGHT to vote and when you do I encourage you to consider this. Ask yourself these questions: Do you want someone else who knows nothing about you and your life to make life changing decisions for you? Would you want them making these decisions for you sister, mom, or daughter?
