I sat as still as possible while a hummingbird floated in the air almost close enough to touch. We both all of the sudden seemed to notice the others presence. We look at each other for a moment before he returns to the flower at hand elegantly eating its nectar. The sound of its wings so close it's almost electrifying, the deep intense hum so beautiful in the late afternoon silence. A time when most birds are resting to stay out of the heat.
As I watch him move from one flower to the next his almost emerald green body glistens and shines like the sea basking in the sun. Then he's off leaving me only able to sit and wait until the next time he will come around.
