High Priestess
by Hannah Landberg
Devotional
There are women who mistake power for remembrance.
The High Priestess knows they are not the same.
She does not seek to be followed.
She does not seek to be believed.
She does not ask permission to tend her flame.
She simply remembers.
Her devotion is not to approval.
Nor to tradition.
Nor to the voices of the underworld.
Her devotion is to the flame entrusted to her.
And because she refuses to hide it,
other daughters begin remembering their own.
